Funeral Service for Jim Dickey age 87, of Snyder, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at the First Baptist Church in Snyder with Rev. Maurice Ford officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. A wake service will be held Tuesday evening, March 2, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Mr. Dickey passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2010, in Norman, Oklahoma.

Jim Dickey was born September 27, 1922, in Garvin, Oklahoma to Jim and Natlee (Berry) Dickey. He attended school at Gary, Oklahoma and E.L. Bethel School in Brookston, Texas He farmed in the Tipton community; later moving to California where he worked for Steve Brothers Construction Company as a cement finisher. He retired in 1981. He moved to Snyder in 1987. On November 3, 1988, he and Betty (Johnson) Christon were united in marriage at Vernon, Texas. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years; and a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of the home; six daughters, Tandra Dickey of Snyder, Meandra Ciesielski and her husband Chris of Ormond Beach, Florida, Sharleigha Dickey of Boca Raton, Florida, Jerri Hewett of Seattle, Washington, Betty Ann Halley and Joyce Gray both of Los Angeles, California; a son Will Robert Southern, Jr. and his wife Gwen of San Diego, California; a sister, Sally Christon of Snyder; a sister-in-law, Daisy Dickey of Tipton; 12 Grandchildren, Dena Halley, Walter Halley, Jr., Vernon Gray, Virgil Gray, Zanya Gray, Will Robert Southern, III, Daryl Southern, Tina Southern, Aaliyah Dickey, Justiss Dickey, Jordan Dickey and Makayla Ciesielski; two great-grandchildren; a special niece, Shameka Wilson of Snyder; and a host of nieces, nephews and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Malcolm and John Dickey; and three sisters, Allie Mae Steverson, Lillie Mae Christon and Willie Bell Simon.
